We only ask for what we need, we never sell your details, and you can ask us to delete them at any time. Here’s the detail.

Local Hero Directory is run by Brightside Technology Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17047608, at 71-75 Shelton Street, London, England, WC2H 9JQ. We’re the data controller for the information you give us on this website. We’re registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, registration number 568453.

What we collect, and why

If you join the waiting list

Your name, email address, postcode, and whether you’re a homeowner or tradesperson. We use it to tell you when Local Hero opens in your area. We only email you because you’ve asked us to (consent), and you can unsubscribe from any email.

If you nominate a tradesperson

Your name, email address, phone number if you give it, the business you’re nominating, roughly when the job was done, the postcode of the job, and what you tell us about the work.

We use it to check the nomination is genuine, to contact you about it, and to decide whether the business meets our standard. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in making sure every Local Hero has been genuinely recommended by a customer.

We only publish your words if you tick the box to say we can. If you do, we show them with your first name and your area, never your surname, contact details or the job postcode. You can ask us to take them down at any time.

We may tell the business that they’ve been nominated. We won’t pass them your contact details without asking you first.

If you’re a tradesperson

When you become a Local Hero, we hold your business details, the evidence we check (such as insurance and memberships) and your interview. What we publish, and how we use the interview footage, is set out in the agreement and media release you sign with us.

When you use the website

This website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps basic technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We use a small number of trusted services to run Local Hero:

• HighLevel, our customer database and email system, which stores the details you send us.
• Cloudflare, which hosts this website and passes your form to our database.

Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your information is handled outside the UK, we rely on approved safeguards, such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Addendum, to protect it.

How long we keep it

• Waiting list: until we open in your area and you’ve had our launch email, or until you unsubscribe.
• Nominations: for as long as the nominated business is a Local Hero, plus 12 months. Nominations that don’t go ahead: 12 months.
• Tradespeople: for as long as you’re a Local Hero, plus 6 years for business records we’re required to keep.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what information we hold about you and send you a copy
• correct anything that’s wrong
• delete your information
• stop using it, or stop emailing you
• take down a nomination you wrote

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
